How a counter agent built the rental company she wanted to work for.
Marisol spent ten years behind airport rental counters watching tired families get upsold on protection they did not need and toll programs that cost more than the tolls. In 2014 she leased a gravel lot near the airport, bought 11 cars at auction, and printed every fee on a single card she handed to each renter.
Word spread through hotel concierges and cruise forums. Today Getaway runs six spots and more than 400 cars, but the fee card is still printed, and still fits on one side.
- 2014Marisol Echeverria opens a gravel lot off NW 42nd Avenue with 11 cars and one borrowed shuttle van.
- 2017South Beach and Coral Gables spots open. The coral shuttle becomes a familiar sight at the Rental Car Center.
- 2020Contactless app unlock launches, and the first four Teslas join the fleet.
- 2023PortMiami and Brickell spots open, plus the exotics concierge for Porsche and Corvette deliveries.
- 2026Fort Lauderdale airport lot opens and the fleet passes 400 cars, 38 percent electrified.
